FHR’s mission is to become a centre of excellence in the field of social studies and to serve the Suriname community as  an academic and professional training-ground in governance and management and as a platform for debate on societal issues, geared towards policy recommendations.

In the pursuit of its mission FHR subscribes to a philosophy which considers societal development a pro-active process in which experience needs to be complemented by continuous learning, links progress to enhancement of human capacities and human organisation and focuses on increasing productivity, improving quality and reducing waste through continuous innovation, creativity and teamwork. 

Objectives
FHR provides training and education in International Relations, Governance, and Management and Policy Skills.
All courses are at PostGraduate level and target current and aspiring executives in private and public organisations. The courses are policy oriented with a third world perspective and are balanced in terms of academic and professional workplace relevance. They all have a modular build-up and teaching consists of lectures and active learning by way of case studies, study group exercises, outside class assignments and independent research.

FHR acts in an advisory capacity for the Government of Suriname, International Organisations and the Private Sector.

FHR’s particular research interests are Constitutional and Public Sector Reform, Implementation and effects of globalisation and regionalisation, Business ethics, and Democratisation.

In addition to its Courses and Research activities FHR organises lectures, seminar’s, workshops and roundtable discussions on topical issues public and private sector executives on topical issues. 

FHR serves as a resource centre. It has a library to support its activities, computer facilities to facilitate e-learning provided by partner institutions and remote access to various databases.
