The MPA in Governance consists of thirteen modules and an individual study project.

The Foundation modules lay the basis for the understanding of processes of governance.

  • 1 Introduction to governance: concepts and approaches

  • 2 Introduction to economics and public goods

  • 3 Public sector management

  • 4 Governance and the legal framework

  • 5 Principles of good governance

The Integration modules deepen participants’ understanding by focusing on major issues concerning current debates on development.

  • 6 Democracy and the rule of law

  • 7 The international economic environment

  • 8 The international political environment and global governance

  • 9 Governance and civil society

  • 10 Governance and the private sector: public-private partnerships

FThe Focus modules deal with management processes key to governance and development.

  • 11 Public finance

  • 12 The macroeconomics of Suriname

  • 13 Planning methods

The Individual Study Project requires participants to analyze a complex problem related to governance and, drawing from one’s own experience and working environment, provide for analytically sound and well-researched policy recommendations.
